The Multidisciplinary Team

Many patients have a range of symptoms associated with their disease and have complex needs that require the input of a healthcare team dedicated to the management of multiple myeloma. These can include a hematologist-oncologist who focuses on treatment of blood cancers and a primary care physician.1

In addition, because multiple myeloma can potentially affect the bones and the kidneys, you may see an orthopedic surgeon or other bone specialists to address bone problems or a nephrologist to address kidney problems. Dental and cardiology specialists may also be involved, along with other specialists to help address potential treatment-associated challenges. Pharmacists, nurses, and nurse practitioners also provide key support in the management of patients with multiple myeloma.2
