The Multidisciplinary Team

Many patients with multiple myeloma experience a range of symptoms associated with their disease and have complex needs that require the input of a healthcare team dedicated to the management of multiple myeloma. This team often includes a hematologist-oncologist (a doctor who specializes in treating blood cancers), your primary care physician, as well as some of the professionals shown below.1

Because multiple myeloma can affect the bones and the kidneys, you may see an orthopedic surgeon or other bone specialist or a nephrologist to manage any kidney issues. Dental and cardiology specialists may also be involved, along with other specialists to help address potential treatment-associated challenges. Pharmacists, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners play essential roles in supporting your care and day-to-day management.2
